The first time you leaked when you laughed or sneezed, you probably were surprised but didn’t think much about it. Those things happen, right? But when any pressure at all — exercise, picking up something heavy, coughing — meant problems, you probably reacted the way most practical women do. You began wearing sanitary napkins, dark clothing — anything that would help you hide what was becoming embarrassing, but that you may have worried was a normal part of getting older. Guess what — it's not normal and it has a name. It's called stress urinary incontinence (SUI), or the involuntary loss of urine during sudden movements that put stress on the bladder. 1 in 3 women suffers from SUI and many of them recall it began after childbirth. |
